MonaLisa Touch Q & A

Channell Family Medical Group

What is MonaLisa Touch® laser therapy?

The MonaLisa Touch, which has been cleared by the Federal Drug and Administration, delivers fractional CO2 laser therapy to the inside of your vaginal walls, stimulating collagen production for improved tissue elasticity and mucus balance. Instead of relying on medications, ointments, or surgery, this non-invasive treatment promotes a natural healing response in your body after only one treatment, with no downtime and almost immediate results.

What does MonaLisa Touch treat?

Over 75% of women experience some degree of vaginal atrophy in their lives as a result of a drop in estrogen. The main culprit behind this hormonal drop is menopause, a stage in a woman’s life when the reproductive cycle is winding down and egg production has ceased. With the accompanying drop in estrogen, a variety of issues can crop up, such as:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Vaginal itching
  • Painful sex
  • Loss of elasticity

While menopause is the leading driver of these symptoms, they may also be brought on by outside forces that have created a premature drop in your estrogen levels, including:

  • Removal of your ovaries
  • Chemotherapy treatment for cancer
  • Hormone therapies that suppress estrogen for certain cancers, mainly breast cancer

Whatever the reason for your drop in estrogen, the good news is that there is now a treatment that can offset your symptoms and restore your vaginal health.

The MonaLisa Touch has also been effective in addressing mild incontinence issues by restoring your vaginal function through increased collagen production.

How many treatments do I need and when will I see results?

Three treatments are required for the full course. Typically, one treatment is all it takes to see an improvement in spur collagen production in your vaginal tissue. The treatment is done in-office and is relatively painless; most women report that it feels like a mild vibration. There is no downtime and you can go back to your daily activities immediately.

Over the course of the following days and weeks, you will experience progressive improvement in your vaginal health as collagen production restores your tissues and improves mucus balance.

If you are one of the millions of women dealing with vaginal atrophy, call Dr. Channell to learn how MonaLisa Touch laser therapy can help you.
